SOUND FAMILIAR?
THE WINDOW GOES DOWN. THEN EVERYTHING CHANGES.
Maybe you heard a sudden pop. Maybe the glass slid crookedly or disappeared inside the door. Maybe the motor still runs, but the window won't move. The uncertainty is frustrating—and an open window can turn a normal day into an urgent problem.
Before you buy a motor or another regulator, let's identify what the window is actually doing.
Choose the description that sounds closest to your experience. These are possible causes, not a diagnosis.
IT'S NOT ALWAYS THE MOTOR.
On some Cruzes, the electric motor can still be heard after the mechanism connecting it to the glass has failed. A broken cable, damaged regulator, binding guide or detached glass mount can produce similar symptoms.
We consider the regulator, motor, switch, glass attachment and electrical operation before recommending a repair.
STUCK OPEN? HERE'S WHAT TO DO.
Avoid repeatedly holding the window switch when the glass is tilted, grinding or moving unevenly. Keep hands clear of the door opening and do not force the glass.
If rain is a concern, see our stuck-down window guide for temporary protection options. Never drive with your vision obstructed.
