SOUND FAMILIAR?
THAT POP FROM THE REAR DOOR IS NEVER A WELCOME SOUND.
Maybe you barely ever use the back window. Now it is stuck halfway, makes a crackling noise, or has vanished inside the door. The worst part is trying to protect your BMW from rain while figuring out whether you need a regulator, motor, or an electrical repair.
The sound and movement are clues—not a diagnosis. We look at what failed before recommending the right repair.
Choose the closest symptom. Each explanation is a possibility—not a confirmed diagnosis.
REAR WINDOW REGULATOR OR WINDOW MOTOR?
The BMW E90 sedan has a cable-driven window regulator in each door. On some repairs, the regulator cable or plastic support fails while the motor continues to operate. A dropped window, cable noise, or crooked glass may point toward the regulator assembly rather than the motor alone.
We check the regulator mechanism, glass retention, motor response, switch operation, and door electronics before recommending replacement parts.
YOUR WINDOW IS OPEN. WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
If glass has dropped or is crooked, stop operating the switch. Do not reach inside the door or try to force the glass upward while powered. Protect the interior from weather without obstructing your visibility.
See our stuck-down window guide for temporary protection options.

BMW E90 WINDOW REPAIR QUESTIONS
Why did my BMW E90 rear window suddenly drop?
A regulator cable, carrier, or glass attachment may have failed. E90 owners describe sudden popping or crackling followed by falling glass, but the specific cause requires inspection.
Can my E90 window motor still be good if the glass has dropped?
Yes. A motor can operate while the regulator cables or glass supports are damaged. We check both the motor and the mechanism.
What is the BMW power-window anti-trap warning?
The anti-trap system helps protect against obstruction by reversing or stopping window movement. Lost initialization, excessive resistance, misalignment, or mechanical faults may be involved.
Does a new regulator need window initialization?
Some E90 window systems may need a relearn/initialization procedure after repairs. The correct approach depends on the issue and the vehicle; repeated reversal can also signal binding or part fitment problems.
Do you service BMW E90 windows at my location?
We offer mobile power-window repair in supported service areas, subject to parts availability and safe working conditions. Send the model year, which window failed, symptoms, and ZIP code for an estimate.
