What may be going on
The regulator guides and lifts the glass. Cable, scissor, cantilever, and flexible-shaft designs fail in different ways, so the right repair starts with the year, make, model, and the window that stopped working. A technician opens the door, checks the glass and lift mechanism, then explains whether a repair or replacement makes sense.
Signs to tell us about
- Window drops into the door or sits crooked
- Popping, scraping, or grinding inside the door
- Motor runs but the glass barely moves
- Glass will not stay in its track
How the repair works
We inspect the regulator, glass mounts, guides, and motor before recommending parts. Depending on the vehicle and the condition of the assembly, a regulator may be repaired or replaced. The final repair includes checking travel and alignment.
Can I tell if the regulator is broken before you arrive?
A sound from the motor while the glass stays still is a useful clue, but several failures sound similar. Tell us what happened just before the window stopped working; we will use that information when preparing the phone estimate.
